Finding Romance at a Thrift Store

I didn’t have the heart to prune my roses this weekend. There were several buds about to burst...
I am glad I waited. They look so pretty with my heart shaped cherub plate I found at Goodwill yesterday.
I felt guilty for splurging....it was $4.99. I think that's way too high for Goodwill.
It WAS made in Italy, but for FTD. So, it's not what you'd call a collectible,
It's not vintage....but it's mine and it matches my candlesticks.
After grouping it with my pretty red roses, I am glad I splurged.
Tonight we are watching, "To Rome with Love." Have you seen that yet? It looked good. Stan is coming home early and we are going to enjoy it together. We hardly ever do that on week nights. I guess I am just in a frivolous mood!

Have you seen any romantic movies lately?

Bisous,

  1. I love your vignette Karen. That plate is so sweet. I'll have to wait a few more months for my roses to even bud lol! I was at Goodwill today and could not believe the prices! Feels almost like full retail pricing to me! Have a wonderful evening with the hubs. Mr. B's idea of a romantic movie is only one car being blown up lol!

    1. Thanks, Kathe! It's been a very mild winter. I'll probably prune back the rose bush this weekend. Can you believe I just had a hibiscus bloom? Stan is a real good sport about movies. I need to work on be better about him watching sports :) Enjoy the rest of your week!

    1. Thanks! I was happy to see they were a pretty good match when I got the plate home. (Less guilt). I am excited about the movie tonight. Stan has been working on a heavy duty project. He'll be home by 7 p.m. to watch it! Woo Hoo. That's early for him these days! Rent a movie or go see one if you can!! The Oscars are right around the corner!

    1. Thanks, Linda! I am not sure if I am ready to really do anything. I am still going back and forth on the idea of even having time to just blog. I would want to re-size my header or make a nice one. I want the pin it button on my blog and I would want a different back ground and re-arrange all the side bar things. Just a cohesive theme. :) Maybe someday. For now I just need the energy to do a post :) Kids woke me up at 5:15 playing video games this morning! You are amazing, though. I'd definitely ask you to help!!!!

  4. I recently watched "French Kiss" again - old one with Meg Ryan and Kevin Cline....one of my all-time favorite funny love stories - and WOW does it have a GREAT soundtrack!

I am glad you splurged. GW is getting higher priced here too. Your neew plate matches your candlesticks so well and those roses- so "oh la la" beautiful!!

    1. Michele, I love "French Kiss". I love "Forget Paris" too. Both from around the same time. Have you ever seen the British film, "Deja Vu"??? My all time favorite love story. Starts in Jerusalem, then she goes to Paris and then England. She does interior design and collects antiques...just an added bonus in the film!! It was never popular here. If you can rent it, I recommend it!! Happy weekend!

  8. Love your valentine design on your table. So pretty. That is pricey for Goodwill on the plate they must have priced it on cuteness factor!!!! It is adorable. Glad you got it. It is really cute.

    1. Thanks, Kris! I thought $4.99 was high as well. Especially for something that's not a collectible, etc. But, hey...I thought it would make a good post! :) Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a great weekend!

  9. Your sweet winter rose looks like my mother's climbing rose. It's really a beauty.

I would not have passed up that plate for a mere $4.99, and I'm pretty cheap! It's a perfect match for your candlesticks after all! I would say, "Good Eye!"

    1. Thanks! I am glad I did get the plate. After Valentine's Day I need to pack it up with the candlesticks and try to remember them next year! That's always a challenge for me. I have to go out and prune the rose today. It's going to be in 70s. Part of me just wants to leave it, but it's best to get it pruned before spring. :) This is just a bush...I'd love some pretty climbing roses!!

    1. Thanks, Japolina! Their prices have gotten higher. I hate to pay $5 for a plate that's not vintage or collectible, but it was a good match. I enjoy your posts...sorry I am long winded :) When I see a question....I get a little excited!! lol. Hope you don't mind. Have a great weekend!

  12. Oh, I agree, you could not have left the store without that plate, given that you already owned candlesticks to match! Lovely red roses -- wish mine were in bloom. It IS time to prune them here in Texas!

    1. I love my blogging friends! The perfect cure for spending guilt!! It's true tough, I think they are a perfect match. I am glad I got it, even if $5 is high for a non-collectible//non-vintage plate.

Pruning today in Northern California! Supposed to 70 degrees! :) Enjoy your weekend, Tricia!

  14. Karen that plate is so cute and I love that it matches your candlesticks. Perfect with your red roses! I find GW the highest priced thrift shop around here. Last movie I watched was War Horse and it was wonderful but made me cry! I hope you enjoyed your romantic evening with a fun movie and the hubby!

  15. I watch for Italian pottery at GW and they do price it higher, especially holiday rated items. Well worth it for that little plate! Romantic movies? Does The Electric Horseman count? I never saw it when it came out years ago and was hooked after seeing Robert Redford's young gorgeous face! I was really in love with the horse though!

  21. Karen, every now and then we have to pay a little more for something that matches so perfectly. The little plate looks like it came as a set with your candle holders. The red roses against the white is stunning! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
