Polishing Silver

Lucie helped me make chocolate cookies after school today. After all, I needed to pick up silver polish, so why not chocolate chips as well?

I thought they looked pretty on the Blue Willow bread plates...and my new silver-plated tray.

As I am taking the pictures, it hits me. I went to the store for silver polish! Oops. Once again I forgot the one thing I went for in the first place. Typical. My priorities are really a mess. :) The cookies are great though!

Here's why I needed more silver polish. I found all of this at one garage. It was priced, "All for $______."  How much do you think he wanted for all of it?

Here's the tray before. Do you recognize it? Look how dark it was. You take your chances with silver pieces sometimes. If the price is right, it's worth trying. Sometimes you can feel if there is corrosion or just tarnish. I knew the small tray above had lots of corrosion, but it would make a nice chalkboard tray!

I am sure you'll see my little silver, velvet lined jewelry box again.....can't you picture it will pearls pouring out? Look at the before of the jewelry box above, lower right hand corner.

So, I guess the polishing will have to wait. I'll just have to busy myself eating cookies.

What was your guess? Was it close to $13?   :)

    1. Thanks, Pinky. I was really happy with my deal. I like bringing things home after my garage sales on Saturday and cleaning it all up and playing with! Hopefully I'll remember the silver polish today and stay away from the baking aisle!

    1. Thanks! The little jewelry box was $3 and all the rest was $10. I thought it was pretty good. Here in California, our Goodwill charges at least $6.99 for a tiny piece (like a small creamer) of silverplated silver. I bought a pitcher at goodwill and it was completed tarnished and it was $9.99. Because of the prices, I have stopped buying from Goodwill. So, I was happy to find this :)

  6. Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment.
What a deal for the silver! Unfortunately it just isn't selling at the antique markets here as the younger generation doesn't want it so it is refreshing to see you buy this whole lot.
I have a tray with the same pattern and I clean the grooves with a toothbrush - nothing like a nice shiny silver tray.

    1. Oh...love the toothbrush idea! Will be doing that. That's too bad that it's not selling. I guess I am out of touch. I sure love silver! Maybe I'll keep the real crusty rusty one and make my own chalkboard tray. :) Thanks for the tips!

  7. Wow, what a bargain on the silver. I would have guessed a lot higher, but had the feeling that it was a super bargain. Because of that I guessed $10. The cookies look yummy and the silver tray was perfect backdrop.

  9. What an awesome treasure you got there, I would only dream of getting that much silver for $13. I guessed $30 to $40. I love silver, but I am more the tarnish silver look, loving all things vintage with lots of faded charm. Those cookie look heavenly, you should put the recipe on here. Diane

  11. Wow - you got a great deal on all of these wonderful silver items. I figured it was around $50. I agree, pearls would make a great addition to the jewelry box. Thank you for sharing at Fluster's Creative Muster.
