Barratts, Songbird Teacups and Saucers

It's Time for tea!
The day after Stan left for France, I received a big package...

It was my Barratts, Ironstone "Songbirds"  cups and saucers made in England. I have enough time to find a little hiding place for them before he gets back...or I can invent a story that goes something like this..."Why these old things? I have had them forever!" I've told you before that I have nothing that matches blue. That's why I rarely use my wedding china. So how on earth can go about buying something else blue? But just look at these precious teacups. Look at the sweet songbird...

I just love this little vintage lamb planter. He has a....flaw on his bottom. No. I just couldn't use the word "crack" in that last sentence, but yes it's true.
I told myself, don't buy it with that big crack. I am so glad I didn't listen. You can barely see it and he is just darling, even with is imperfections! You'll giggle too...he was only $1.99.

I found my Barratt teacups on....drum roll....I am always telling everyone about it: shopgoodwill.com. Not crack, chip or anything. One saucer has a bit of crazing. I really do love them. I really should sell them....I don't want to. There are a total of 6 cups and saucers. NO ONE bid on them...except ME. $9.99. I am telling you. I had no choice. I keep thinking of the teapot that matches. There are a few on line!!! Somebody help me!!!!

 Bisous, Mes amies!!!

  4. I do not even use cups and saucers, but would have bought these just for the blue and white pattern with the bird. My husband has given up asking if we have always owned something. Don't crack jokes about the adorable lamb!

    1. Stan probably wouldn't have paid any attention to the teacups themselves, but he would have noticed the box! :) You are so right, it was hard to resist the colors and pattern on these teacups. Songbird comes in green too I noticed. I had never seen this pattern before...I love it.

  5. I laughed out loud, when I read your post - the part about hiding them from your husband. I never really did that (sure!). However, sometimes I would put them "up", before he arrived home from work. Now, the joke is on me, because UPS does not deliver, until around 7:00 P.M. at my house. This is a long time, after my husband gets home. So funny! Love those teacups - anything with a bird on it speaks to my heart and the blue is such a pretty shade. We would have never know about the lamb's little issue, if you had not told us. He is adorable!!

I also bought a Michael Kors bag. :) It was better than I imagined it would be. Amazing things on there and 1,000 of new things every day. I can't be held responsible for any trouble you get int on there!!! Sipping can be very high, but it seems to be everywhere.

I've found some great things at GW. Just today I brought home yet another heart shaped plate that is like some I've had for more than 20 years. Beautiful vignette with that sweet lamb.

    1. Hi, Sarah!! Did you get a chance to check out shopgoodwil.com?? It is a lot of fun. The have a lot of amazing china in tablewares every day!!! You have to check out "New Today" and also things that Ending. Shipping can be high, but you can pick things up if it's near you as well. Tons of transferware form New York and Indiana all the time!! That is amazing that you found a heart shaped plate that matches some from over twenty years ago!! Isn't it fun?? I thought the teapot was fun...you know me. I'll keep it all. I am quite the hoarder these days! By the way...Stan is still in Albi. They are not telling his mother how bad it is, and even the doctors have agreed. I am not a fan of this secret keeping. I think she has the right to know. This once vivacious energetic woman is now on the couch all day. Stan says she is coughing a lot and has no energy. NO treatments have begun. I am having a hard with that. Today they got to Toulouse for an MRI. There appear to be lesions on her brain. I am so glad Stan is there to help hold down the fort. :(

  27. The lamb planter is what caught my eye, and the whole post is lovely. You're right about the blue songbird teacups, and how could you not add them to your collection. Being partial to blue & white china, I think everyone needs some blue in their home, even if it just some lonely but sweet teacups.
