My Moytt Staffordshire

I love dishes. Old, new, collectible, silly, fun, you name it. But I have a special place in my heart for my Moytt Staffordshire.

I first posted about them here.

These are the dishes I remember from my childhood. My mother entertained a lot. Her parties were fun, loud, and lasted until the wee hours of the night.

So many of my favorite things have been hidden in cupboards and even in the garage! Yes. These beautiful dishes have been in the garage. For nearly ten years. Until, I recently found my white hutch HERE.
These were never meant to be forgotten on some dusty shelf.

My mother used them regularly and always had them displayed in here Duncan Phyfe-like dining room set hutch. The children always got the square dishes. Funny, the things you remember.
My mother's Cock-a-leekie soup always tasted better in these bowls.

Do I love them for the memories? Yes.

Do I love them for their story?
Yes; they were given to my mother by a friend...who thought they were horrid! I love that, because that's how they became mine.

And, I love them because they are beautiful...
They are not displayed in my hutch yet, but they will be. For now they are on the shelf in the bottom cupboard. But, they are safe...and they are mine.

Thank you mom, you knew they were special when your friend didn't want them and you knew they were special to me.

  1. How beautiful are those dishes?! I can't believe they were hiding in a garage!! I remember the dishes we used as kids too! I got home from work yesterday and there was a little box waiting for me by my front door. Imagine my surprise when I opened it and found a pretty mug with a Christmas scene on it! Thank you so much!! I can't decide what I like more....the mug, the cute packaging, the snowman ornament or the chocolate! Oh, who am I kidding...the packaging was awesome....I saved every bit of it!!! That ribbon was fabulous and the cute little pom pom garland....so fun! Guess I'm a crafter at heart! You'll probably be seeing both of those items re-purposed on a craft I post!!! Thank you again...that package made my day!! Oh....and I'm already drinking my morning coffee in that pretty mug!

    1. Thanks. Yes! They were in my garage. So gross...like my garage. I am really happy I have a hutch now. It's helping with my lack of space. Can't wait to display them in there!

Thank goodness you brought your lovelies out of the garage and into the house!
They are beautiful. But even if they were ugly the memories alone would make me want to display them. Isn't it funny how we save dishes for special days that were used for everyday use once? We once dined at a woman's home who refused to do that. She said she used her best dishes every day even when her children were young. Sure she had to replace a few, but she felt it was worth it to dine on pretty dishes.

  4. It's so special that you have your mother's dishes to keep forever. I have my mom's gravy boat that we use every Thanksgiving and it belonged to her mother. These are such treasured items. The girls came over and saw your handmade ornaments and fell in love with the sheet music ones. They want to make some on their craft day coming up. I love coming over here and seeing all your pretty things. It gives me such inspiration.

I have never seen this design before, absolutely stunning. I have fetish for dishes also. Hubby says I have to many. He's right of course, but he doesn't need to know that. lol! 1. Thank you, Jan! I have only ever found this pattern once on a website. It's not very common. They were my mom's friends grandparent’s wedding dishes. I'll try to get my act together and join your party! Thanks!

  16. That last picture of the close up. It stirred a memory in me, something to do with my Grandmother, she must have had something with that design on it. Anyway, loved the china. I will be following your blog. I enjoyed the visit
