Snowball Viburnum Bush

I am sharing my post from over a year ago on "Sunlit Sunday."

I woke up this morning and opened the blinds to my bedroom window. I was more than thrilled at what I saw. My Viburnum was in full bloom. The last time I looked they were small tight green buds. It happens fast and when it's in full bloom it is amazing. I planted this shrub in 2003 when we first moved into this house. I grew up in the country and my parents had this same bush growing outside one of their living room windows. I always loved it as child. It reminds of that old farm house I loved so much. Now, I get to make beautiful shabby chic bouquets and feel like I am home in the country.

Freshly cut

Arranging
Some greens shining through

So shabby and soft

Placed in the living room

Tranquil

Here is the "snowball" bush outside. I remember calling it the popcorn ball tree growing up. Whatever you call it, it's gorgeous.
I love this plant. It's pure beauty and the memories it lends.

  1. Hello, Karen

I find that some of the plants in my garden are ones that my mom used to grow, so I can appreciate why you chose to plant a shrub that's special to you. It reminds me of a hydrangea; I've have to find out more about viburnum.

Thanks you for bringing your bouquets to "Sunlit Sunday". It's always a treat to see a new "face" at this gathering.

    1. Thank you, Karen! I was so excited when thought about sharing an older post...after all you can see I had no comments! You are my first!! Woo Hoo! None of current blogging friends got see all of these older posts. I just love this plant. I am really looking forward to these flowers in April. It only blooms once a year!! It is very similar to the Hydrangea and is often mistaken for one. It's so pure white that it's really a stunning flower!
Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday!

  3. I absolutely LOVE green hydrangeas and yours looks so happy. They look beautiful arranged in that vase. I'm curious to know what color they turn when they are dried, if you have ever dried them..

  4. Thanks you! This is actually not a Hydrangea, although it looks just like one. It's too funny you ask about drying them. I was just thinking about how I should try. But, I do remember they lose all the petals quickly. So, I am not sure it would work with these. Thank you so much for coming over! I am happy that my Snowball Viburnum is getting some attention after over a year!!

  5. Viburnums were hit hard here a couple of years ago by the viburnum beetle. The only one of mine that survived is a variety called 'Judii' and it is so highly perfumed, the whole back yard smells good when it flowers.

  6. We call that our snowball bush; like you, I planted one when I moved into this home thinking of the one that my grandparents had at their home. It has now grown into a tree, but I like it that tall.

    1. It must make a beautiful tree! I'd love that. There is something so sentimental about garden plants and flowers we grew up with...it's a piece of home. Thanks so much, for stopping by!

  7. This is a gorgeous bouquet. I don't know if I've seen these bushes here. It looks like a hydrangea only with smaller blooms. Very pretty. Pamela

    1. Thanks, Pamela. I liked the bouquet wild and imperfect. They are a lot like hydrangeas. I should try planting a hydrangea in the same area. I bet it would grow there. I had one is spot that got too much sun/heat and didn't make it. I am glad this Viburnum has thrived. It reminds me of my dad. :)

  8. Oh those were beautiful! I have some viburnums but they don't have such a pretty flower. I can't wait to see my hydrangeas this year. Last year we had an odd spring and a bunch of them never flowered. I have a new Annabelle that has huge white flowers and a bunch of limelights that a wonderful too! This makes me anxious to see spring!
